- Summary
- One of 15 microfilm reels filmed for the Manchester City Library in 2015, Roll 9 includes typed and handwritten materials (some from published sources), including copies of newsclippings and drawings from published sources. Much of the material is in draft form; there are also scraps of paper with notes. Most of this reel is devoted to the subject of European immigrants to New Hampshire, with systematic surveys and compilation of statistics combined with interviews and lengthy quotes from published sources. Some original WPA works include "The Jews in early New Hampshire" by William T. Clear, Lucille C. Hodge, and Gladys Duhaime ( 7 p.); "Manual for the National Social-Ethnic Study of the Lithuanian in America" by the Federal Writers' Project-Nationwide Lithuanian Project; "Famous trees of New Hampshire" by Lucille Hodge (21 p.) ; three articles for whom no author information is provided: "The Scotch-Irish in Manchester" (8 p.), "The first English Yankees in Manchester" ( 4 p.), and "The growth of Manchester 1788-1846" (6 p.); "Checklist of New Hampshire silversmiths" by Luna C. Osburn ( 4 p.); and "Country stores and salesmen in New Hampshire", compiled by Eunice Weed (18 p.)
