Summary
One of 15 microfilm reels filmed for the Manchester City Library in 2015, Roll 3 includes typed and handwritten materials (some from published sources), including copies of newsclippings and drawings from published sources. Much of the material is in draft form; there are also scraps of paper with notes. In the sections on metal, there are many 19th century ads, typed from newspapers, for a wide variety of metal products, including hay scales, iron ploughs, blacksmith tools, etc. Of note is an essay titled "Workers in metal", approx. 80 pages (irregularly numbered), which, although apparently incomplete, contains useful information on the subject in New Hampshire. The sections on ballads and folk songs include variants of "Joel Baker", a ballad based in Alstead, NH, and NH variants of "Billy Boy", "Bonny Bunch of Roses" (about Napoleon), "Lord Randall", and "Stratton Mountain Tragedy". There is quite a large section on Gen James Wolfe, including the ballad "Brave Wolfe" and an essay "Gen. Wolfe - Hero of Quebec", as well as biographical notes. The section on musical instruments includes directories of NH instrument-makers from the 1800's
