- "Pelicans" is a photography book about the seasonal workers of Star Island, New Hampshire. Anna Solo and Jennifer Moore offer an intimate look into a unique island way of life. Star Island is part of the Isles of Shoals, a group of small islands about seven miles off the coast of New Hampshire and Maine. For more than a hundred years, Star Island has hosted educational and spiritual programs as well as artist retreats and workshops during the summer. "Pelican" is the nickname for a seasonal worker on Star Island. The number of Pelicans needed to support a summer conference season hovers around one hundred. This book offers a collection of glimpses into the hard work and play of the Star Island Pelicans. Together Anna Solo and Jennifer Moore shadowed the Pelicans over a summer as they worked in the historic grand hotel, The Oceanic, and on the grounds of the small and rugged island. The book offers a condensed history of the Isles of Shoals with specific focus given to Star Island. The photography is organized into three sections; On Duty, Off Duty, and End of Season
